Digital art and Riso prints (Map and Graphic novel pages)

I decided to make a map of the world I had created for my character, known as the SOAS (Society of Ascended Souls). I knew that I wanted to do a riso print for my map because of the grainy texture that it has. This would give my map a slightly older feel, like a fantasy map printed onto a book page.

I drew the world in photoshop I scanned in the drawings that I had done of my pine cone planets in my sketchbook and traced over them in Photoshop. This way I had a shape that I could repeat in the map. For the larger planes I added different shades of grey. I only used black but changed the opacity to 75%, 50% and 25% to get varying tones. I also did this o that I knew exactly how my shades would appear on the riso print.

For the graphic novel pages I drew each image (in Photoshop) by hand. The boxes I used to separate the scenes were digitally made. These two pages tell the story of my character, Ness. After dying they are reborn as a moth fairy. They are disorientated and confused so they fly home only to find that their family is attending their funeral. Ness breaks down in despair. They are then greeted by a Keeper who explains to them that they have been reborn as a moth because they have unfinished business in the land of the living, which they must deal with before ascending to the SOAS, aka the afterlife. Ness then writes a letter to her family for them to find. Once they read it, Ness can ascend.
